Update - 6/5/2023

Hello InTown families,

Three items to address:

1. WEATHER - The weather looks questionable this week.  1st and 2nd grade teams that practice, please keep an eye on your email for practice cancelations.   We will practice if its a light mist and the fields are not saturated, but we cannot practice if there is thunder or lightening.

2. PHOTO MAKE-UPS -  Saturday, June 10, 2023, 1:30-3:30 pm taken at the LYS fields (the regular field off the Samoset parking area).

If you missed photos a couple weeks ago your player can come anytime between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm to have their individual photo taken by My Photo Group.   Please note, the Travel teams are scheduled on June 10th, when you arrive check in with the photographers so they know you are there.

3. SUMMER CAMP Community Athletic Solutions (CAS) will be running a summer camp at the LYS fields again this summer from July 10-12, 2023.  The sessions are $70 for the younger kids (4-6 year olds) and $110 for the older kids (6-14 year olds).

Ages 4-6 - 9:00 am to 10:30 am  - OR - 11:00 am to 12:30 pm

Ages 6-14 - 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

 To Register:   https://communityathleticsolutions.sportngin.com/register/form/110858700

1. Team assignments and the game schedule have been posted online.

If you do not know how to find your player's team assignment or schedule please refer to the attached PDF for instructions.  (This PDF was from last year so the dates are wrong, but its the same information on accessing schedules).  http://www.leagueathletics.com/Documents.asp?org=Leominsteryouthsoccer.org

2.  Not all of the coaches have been linked to the teams.  I will continue to work on this with coaches between now and the first games on April 23, 2023.

The practice schedule for 1st and 2nd Grade teams is attached as a PDF and will also be posted online under "InTown Updates"  http://www.leominsteryouthsoccer.org/HeyCoach.asp?n=166092&org=Leominsteryouthsoccer.org

PLEASE NOTE:  Practices will start the week of April 24th.  No practices during school vacation.

3. Some coaches may send a welcome message to their teams, some may not.  Please keep in mind every coach is a volunteer and may have obligations or travel plans that prevent them from sending a message.  If you are receiving this email your player is registered and you should show up on April 24th.  Times for games are as follows:

Preschool - 12 noon

Kindergarten - 1:30 pm

1st Grade - 3:00 pm

2nd Grade - please refer to the schedule posted online.

All games are at the LYS complex which is located off the rear of the Samoset Middle School parking lot located at 100 Decicco Drive.

Please note, parking is limited and we have high enrollment this season.   If you have extended family coming to watch games please consider dropping one call at the Fall Brook parking lot and car pooling up the hill.  Parking on the grass is not allowed and the Leominster Police Department will ticket cars.

We also do not want to clog the access road to Samoset and prevent an ambulance or other emergency vehicle from reaching the fields in the event of an accident.  In short, please use common sense when parking.

4. Pets are NOT ALLOWED on the field.  If you bring a dog or other animal to the field you will be asked to leave.

5. There are porta potties located outside the LYS gates for use by players and families.

6. Notices on weather cancelations are sent via email.  Please be sure you have opted in for emails and that emails are not sent to your junk mail.

Notes to Coaches re: play by division
by Christine Abraham posted 4/12/2023
DIVISION 4 - PRESCHOOL AGE GROUP

- Meets on Sunday for one hour - the first half is practice and the second half a game (30 minutes).

- Practice/game starts at 12 noon on Sunday

- Play 3 v. 3, NO GOALIE.

- I ask that you please adhere to the NO GOALIE rule and do not encourage players to stand in front of the net acting as a goalie.  The nets are already pretty small, when we have players building a wall in front of the nets it is frustrating for the other teams.  This is also the area that I get the most complaints in – either because the other team can’t score, or the parents are frustrated that their player is just standing in front of the net and not playing the game.

- The teams have 7 or 8 players each.

- The rules are very informal at this age group.  They should not use their hands, not pretend to be a goalie, and not do anything to hurt another player.

- We do not have corners or penalty kicks at this age group.

- This age group is not ready for throw ins so if the ball goes out of bounds the coaches should just toss it back on the field and continue play.

- No practices during the week

- This season we will have 12 teams in this division.  With 12 teams and only 8 weeks of play each team will not play each other.

- Most teams have 2 coaches assigned.  If you will BOTH be out any week please let me know ASAP so I can arrange for a sub.  All subs have to go through the credential process so we cannot allow a parent to step in as a sub if they have not been credentialed.

- Hopefully every player has arrived with the following items and is ready to play:
a. Soccer ball (size 3 preferred)
b. Shin guards
c. Cleats
d. Water bottle
e. Soccer socks (this is a preference for Divisions 3 and 4, but strongly recommended as they help keep the shin guards in place and keep the players from fiddling with them all practice/game).

If a player forgot a ball, or you need any extra ball for a drill, we have a few in the shed and can lend them out for practice/games.

We also have cones that can be lent out for practice drills.

The nets and cones are used for the D3 games immediately after the D4 so please do not clear the cones or nets after your game.

Please make sure anything that is borrowed is returned as we have limited supplies.

I hope that every player’s family will treat you with respect this season.  However, if you run into any issues, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or a board member for assistance.

- The teams have 7 or 8 players each.

- The rules are very informal at this age group.  They should not use their hands, not pretend to be a goalie, and not do anything to hurt another player.

DIVISION 2 – 1ST GRADE AGE GROUP

- Meets on Sunday for one hour game and practices for one hour during the week.

- Game starts at 3:00 pm on Sunday.  The 3 pm games are always the last round for InTown so I ask that you please help me clean up at the end of the game by removing the nets and cones from the fields.  All nets and cones are to be returned to the shed.

- Play 5 v. 5, NO GOALIE.

- I ask that you please adhere to the NO GOALIE rule and do not encourage players to stand in front of the net acting as a goalie.  The nets are already pretty small, when we have players building a wall in front of the nets it is frustrating for the other teams.  This is also the area that I get the most complaints in – either because the other team can’t score, or the parents are frustrated that their player is just standing in front of the net and not really playing the game.

- We do not have corners or penalty kicks at this age group.

- This age group does do throw-ins.  Please remember to have the player throw the ball over their head and drag their back foot.

- Players should also be starting to learn the difference between offense and defense.

- This season we will have 8 teams in this division

- Most teams have 2 coaches assigned.  If you will BOTH be out any week, please let me know ASAP so I can arrange for a sub.  All subs have to go through the credential process so we cannot allow a parent to step in as a sub if they have not been credentialed.

- Meets on Sunday for one hour game and practices for one hour during the week.

- Game times change each week.  Please check the schedule.

- Play 6 v. 6 with a Goalie.  This is the ONLY age group that uses goalies.

- The rules remain pretty informal but we add in referees and corners for this age group.  We do not do penalty kicks.

- This age group does do throw-ins.  Please remember to have the player throw the ball over their head and drag their back foot.

- This season we will have 6 teams in this division

- Most teams have 2 coaches assigned.  If you will BOTH be out any week, please let me know ASAP so I can arrange for a sub.  All subs have to go through the credential process so we cannot allow a parent to step in as a sub if they have not been credentialed.
