Leominster Youth Soccer

Fall 2008 Newsletter

Greetings Soccer Families,

Welcome to the 2008 fall season of Leominster Youth Soccer (LYS). This season we have over 600 children registered to play. We are thrilled to have all of you on board with us and look forward to a season filled with fun and teamwork.

LYS had quite a successful spring season. Several teams were competitive in their age brackets and some of the teams continued into the post season. The boys’ Under 12 team captured the Nashoba Cup championship while the boys’ high school team made it to the Nashoba Cup finals only to fall to Maynard. The girls’ Under 16 team had an unbeaten season with 7 wins, 1 tie and no losses. They finished first in the NVYSL MTOC division and qualified for the MTOC tournament played at Proggin Park, which the Massachusetts Youth Soccer recently built in Lancaster off of Route 70.

Many thanks to those of you who have dedicated your time in any way to help keep LYS ”kicking”. LYS is run completely by volunteers. Many of us have spent hours at our fields coaching, facilitating practices and organizing tournaments, while others help on the organizational level. This group of parent volunteers is the LYS operating board. Most of these volunteers work behind the scenes to ensure that our children can play in a safe and fun environment.

The Leominster Youth Soccer operating board as of the last board meeting consists of the following members:

· Paul Grautski – Treasurer

· OPEN - Secretary

· Dina Gagne – Registrar

· Scott Boyson – Girls’ Travel Director

· Gabor Romhanyi – Boys’ Travel Director

· Brian Schofield – Field Coordinator

· Geoff Anthony – NVYSL Representative and Education Director

· Rebecca Grautski – In-town Director

· Michael Raspuzzi – Referee Director

· Jim Hanlon – Uniform Director

· Brian McBride – Equipment Director

· OPEN – Snack Bar Coordinator

For the past three years, Mike DiGeronimo has been the LYS president. The board wishes to thank Mike for all his hard work and dedication to LYS. Before becoming president, Mike was also the boys’ travel director and coached for many seasons. This fall, Mike has stepped down and Gabor Romhanyi was been elected as the new LYS president. We all wish Mike the best of luck in his future endeavors and welcome Gabor in his new role as President of the LYS board.

Just as there is a new president, we are looking for new volunteers step into the roles of Secretary, Snack Bar Director, Registrar, Boys’ Travel Director and Referee Director. We are also seeking help with our web site and various other tasks. If you are interested in helping out in any capacity, please contact an LYS board member.
